The “Hip-Hop Digest” Interview
Ok people
we had to start things off RAW like Big Daddy Kane and interview three elders (King Killa B, Curt G. & E. Green) of Hip-Hop
that never front on the culture…oh and I mean NEVER. Well lets get this
shish started…
What
made y’all start the Hip-Hop Digest Show? (KKB) –
We would sit around and talk about Hip-Hop all day so fuck it do a show.
So what do you like most about being the voices of Hip-Hop right now because people are
obviously listening? (CG) – The fact that we are also
the voice of reason for Hip-Hop.
As
far as responses are concerned which one has shocked y’all the most?
(CG) – The fact that a lot of females out here don’t really know the history of female MC’s
like they should.
Why
do you think a lot of females, not all…lack so much Hip-Hop knowledge?
(EG) – Well this is strictly my opinion, but I think most women are music driven when it comes to Hip-Hop. Not that I don’t think women pay attention to the lyrics, but if you peep what
women are listening to in their cars or whatever, you don’t get a sense that there’s a lot of concern for what’s
being said. But the beat has them ready to dance or whatever. This is might get me in some trouble, but there’s a lot of strip club music being played these days.
What do you think makes the chemistry between the three of you guys on the show go together
so well? (KKB) – Year’s of constant debate.
Yo E. Green, after listening to many of the shows I’ve noticed you are very concerned
about the youth and the proper knowledge of this thing we call Hip-Hop. Would
you like to elaborate? (EG) – The thing to me is this…Hip-Hop,
music for that matter is a young persons thing. But that doesn’t mean that
there can’t be old heads hanging around to keep some sort of balance and history in check. When we were coming up, Hip-Hop was brand new. Now days, some
kinds don’t even realized that the genre goes back past what’s current.
The genre is too young for it to be so disposable.
Now
Curt G. on the other hand hand…I’m just wondering are you always the more laidback person of the Hip-Hop Digest
crew? (CG) – It probably seems that way but what the
listeners don’t know is that I’m running the boards while we are doing the show so most of the time I’m
more concerned with the sound quality of the show than I am about chiming in on a lot of the topics.
E. Green since you’re so heavily involved in filming will there ever be actual video
footage of the Hip-Hop Digest Show? (EG) – Yes, we will
at some point do some video footage of the shows. It’s just a matter of
time and logistics. But people will be “seeing” us at some point.
The
show can get rather controversial at times does that ever concern y’all?
(KKB) – No! Well maybe if Puffy Got made at us !!!!!!!
Who
would you like to actually bring down to the lab to interview and for what reason?
(KKB) – Jay-Z, he represents all that’s right and all that’s wrong. With Hip-Hop.
Has anything ever been said on the show and after you listened to it you wished you would
have just chilled out a bit? (CG) – No I try not to have
regrets cause once you say something it’s out there and you can’t take it back.
Do you think y’all will ever put together a Hip-Hop Digest Show compilation that
displays music that real Hip-Hop lover have grown to love? (KKB)
Hell Yea (When We Get The Time)????????
If you had a $50,000 budget to work with for the Hip-Hop Digest Show name some of the things
you would like to do or change? (CG) – I probably wouldn’t
change anything but we would definitely get an up to date mixing board and the same mics for all of us.
If you could program a Hip-Hop Digest radio program what could we expect to hear and why
would you do it that way? (EG) – I’m thinking that
our programming would be nothing like what you hear on any station anywhere. We
would be a true representation of what Hip Hop is. You would hear your Soula
Boys of the world, but you’d also hear your Torae’s, and you’d hear cuts from the beginning. I doubt that you’d hear the same song more than twice in a week. LOL
Well
that would force me to start listening to radio again. Ok so what’s the
future plans for the Hip-Hop Digest Show? (EG) – Well
as long as we have listeners, we plan to bring it. We want to make sure that
real Hip-Hop has a voice. Not just what radio tells you is Hip-Hop. So again, we will at some point be more interactive. We may
even go live. Whatever it takes to keep folks interested, yet maintain our goal
of teaching.
As
expected it has been a pleasure. Do you have any last words, plugs, etc.? (CG) – Just keep listening to the show cause it’s only gonna
get better. Oh yeah I definitely want to send a shout out to you for being a
loyal listener you been there since day one and we appreciate that thanks. ONE!!!
(EG) – You know we have plugs…gotta tell everyone to go check out www.miccheckshow.com. We just put up
an interview with Fat Joe, the clip has over 24,000 hits in just three days. He
really got people fired up with his comments on Fifty. Watch out for G. Light
Films, we have some major projects coming out too. (KKB) –
Ring tones Pay well but just like cigarettes they are cancer to Hip-Hop…”THINK”
