I would like to start this off by asking you what part(s) do you play at Wolftown Recordings first
of all? I’m the co-owner, but myself and Tricksta don’t
have job titles were both good at different things so between us both we usually get the job done, for example Tricksta is
good on the phone, I’m good with coming up with concepts for projects.
You and Tricksta seem to have a very close relationship. How does that effect business decision when
the two of you don’t agree on something and how do you try to resolve it? Because
we grew up together we usually got the same views on things, we always back each others projects,
What was the name of the very first song you ever recorded for Wolftown Recordings? That was UK SOUND our first single it done well, we got a lot of press from that, that came out in 1999, then
we released a remix of it in 2001
What is your favorite posse song that
you have recorded within your camp? There so many but one of my favorite
is “WV1” from the VILLAINS album because that was the first one we ever did
When can the fans expect to hear a new Villains album? I
don’t know, I’m focusing on my solo career at the moment, for the last 9 years myself and Tricksta have put a
lot of energy into a lot of group projects. So I’m taking time out at the moment recording my first solo album produced
by Tricksta called “BELOW STREET LEVEL.” I’ve had a lot LATE releases but they have all been mixtapes and
collaboration projects. This, in my eyes is going to be my first official LATE album
So you have a new solo project coming out this month I hear. Let the people know the release date
and what they can expect when they purchase this project? It’s
coming out at the end of MAY 2008/start of JUNE2008 it’s called “2THOUSAND & LATE” and is collection
of solo tracks and remixes I have featured on and collaborations I have done over the last 12 months. It’s mixed by
Tricksta, 20 tracks deep and also features a chopped n screwed track by DJ LOON. It’s a CD that will show you where
I’m at, at this moment and also give you a taste of what’s to come on the new album Below Street Level”
Who do you have featured on this new album and what
made you choose the MC’s that you did? On there is KB DA KIDNAPPA
from the group STREET MILATRY, JT THE BIGGA FIGGA, JON CONNERS, BRICK SAAVY, LO–KEYS, STRESS, FAMOSO, MOKEOUT, JAI-BOO,
SIZE8, RICKY LEE, CONMAN, CEE-ROCK “THE FURY”, NUT-RAGEOUS, PANAMA, JAK DANIELS, and S.P.C
rappers THUGSTAR, MURDER ONE & KUWAIT, they’re all good people and are grinding in the independent game
Tell us a little about your recording habits. You know things
that motivate you and turn you off as well? Just what’s happening
in the world and my life is my motivation. I usually record in the day, sober and alert. I try not to force it, if I’m
not in the mood I won’t record.
Who are you feeling right in Hip-Hop
and why? Im feeling K-RINO his last release Triple darkness a 3 CD
release is fully sick he is one of the best lyrists out there at the moment. I’m feeling Thizz World I like their movement
its like No Limit back in the day, I’m feeling Trae & Z-Ro they’re releasing a lot of good music, anything
on Rap A lot. I like music that is about real life.
With
the decease in records sells because of piracy and so-called lack of promotion what do you think must be done to revamp this
drought? We gotta ride it out the ones that are in it for the wrong
reason will fade away when there is no money in it for them leaving more room in this saturated market. The rest of us will
have to be more creative with our releases, for example putting a bonus DVD with the album. It’s hard at the moment
with everyone doing these blogspots where people are uploading new albums for people to download for nothing its crazy! What
the hell are they getting out of that? People are doing a search for a new album they come across that link of course they
gonna down load it. That is hurting a lot of independent artists, he has just lost $16 right there. People need to stop that
for a start.
If you had to stop making music what
other hustle(s) would you opt to get into? I would get back into
dj’ing, I done clothing in the past I would probably get into that.
How does the Wolverhampton community embrace you and you crew over there? Its like any city, there is a lot love, there’s some jealousy but the majority is all love
Do you ever come to the States and if so what did you find to
be a lot different than the UK? Yeah we was in Houston December 2006,
we love it. In the UK urban music has got a concrete ceiling, its doesn’t get a quarter of the publicity guitar music
gets, urban acts find it hard to get on the big festivals we get out here and mainstream television and radio. There isn’t
much love for hip hop out here, that’s why we love the states. A lot of the projects we do, you (U.S) get straight away,
some times its takes the UK a couple of years to get what we’re doing. In Houston we got that proper Southern hospitality,
we got looked after good. London is a lot like New York, Wolftown is not in London we’re up North it’s a lot more
laid back where we at, that’s why we connect well with the South. We’re more into our cars up here, in London
it’s hard to afford to have a car down there, a lot of people use the tubes like New York, we’re on our car game
up here.
Oh I have an off the wall question
for you Late. How damn much is gasoline costing over there at the pumps kid and your thoughts as well? DAAAAAAAAAM don’t get me started on this. At the moment its around £5.80 a gallon which is around
12 dollars and its going up every day and we're paying it!!. They sell it by the litre out here so it does seem that expensive.
It’s retarded.
Glad you took time out of you busy
recording schedule to mix it up with us. If you have any plugs at all now it the time to let them loose!!! Thank you for taking time out to do this. Just check out my websites for all things LATE & WOLFTOWN www.wolftownrcordings.com and www.myspace.com/latewolftown
